EMPOWERING BLACK YOUTH TO GET STARTED IN LIFE
Just Gettin’ Started was founded following one basic philosophy: When Black people are given equitable resources, tools, and opportunities, we thrive. We work with Black youth to level the playing field as they get started in life. We’re investing in the future by supporting youth today.
Many students of color, especially Black students, start life years behind their peers due to various systemic barriers.
We provide skills-based programming, mentorship, and job placement opportunities to students to help balance out the inequities in Black communities throughout Chicago. Our programming is steeped in social and emotional learning with the belief that mental health is the foundation of academic, professional, and personal success.
CAREER EXPLORATION DAYS
After completing the Summer Leadership Series, students will have the opportunity to participate in Career Exploration Days, where they will visit local companies in intimate groups to get an in-person look at various businesses and organizations. CEDs allow students to learn about a new industry, grow their network of professionals, and be submerged in an office environment.
